IPTV players explained: what they do and how to choose one

An IPTV player is the app that plays streams on your device. It is separate from your subscription: the player is the screen, the subscription is what it plays.

Updated

Player and subscription are two different things

Players are made by independent developers and are installed from your device's app store. On their own they contain no channels or programmes. Your provider gives the player access once your subscription or trial is activated.

This is why our setup guides ask you to install a compatible player first, then send us the activation details it shows.

How players are activated

Players use one of a few methods. Your player shows which one applies on its home, settings or activation screen:

  • A MAC address or device ID that the provider registers.
  • A device key, sometimes shown next to the MAC address.
  • A playlist link or portal address that you enter in the player.

What to check before installing a player

  • It is available in your device's official app store (Samsung, LG, Google Play, Amazon Appstore or Apple App Store).
  • It was updated recently and works on your device's software version.
  • Its own price: some players are free, others charge their own fee, set by the player's developer and separate from your Streamovas plan.
  • It has a clear privacy policy and contact details.

An example player

If you do not have a player yet, iBox IPTV Player is one example you can look at on its website. It is only a suggestion: iBox is an independent app, not affiliated with Streamovas, and any compatible player works. Our team can help you choose one for your device.

General information, reviewed by the Streamovas team. Player menus change between versions, so the exact wording on your screen may differ.
